When is National Dog Day 2022?

We are preparing to celebrate all the furry friends in our lives on august 26th national dog day! Would it shock you to find out our furry friends have been around for at least 14,000 years? It’s a good thing that we have our best friend because what would we do without him? The time has come to share your love for your puppy with the world by pulling out your cake and pictures!

What is National Dog Day?

A man’s best friend is his dog for a reason, so why not acknowledge and celebrate that fact? There are many different types, sizes, and breeds of furry friends. You’re sure to find a dog to suit your needs. No matter how big or small the pup, National Dog Day should be celebrated by everyone.

Animal Advocate and Pet & Family Lifestyle Expert Colleen Paige created this holiday in 2004. She intended to have a day that celebrates all dogs as well as to draw attention to the number of dogs in shelters. The purpose was to encourage those dogs still seeking homes to find them. Colleen’s family adopted her Sheltie on August 26, 2000, when she was 10 years old.

National Dog Day was first celebrated in 2004 but it has since grown and is now celebrated around the world. New York State Senate has posted the holiday’s legislative language on its website since 2013.

A coalition of rescue partners has united to spread the word of the holiday, including The Human Society and West Coast Labrador Retriever Rescue. In addition, they raise awareness of the large number of dogs who are without homes and encourage people to adopt instead of buying a dog from a pet store.

One million dogs have been rescued through adoption in the United States since the first National Dog Day back in 2004. National Dog Day has become a day for dog owners who aren’t trying to start a family to celebrate their best friend as the legend they are and enjoy the connection we have built with them over the ages.

The holiday was instituted by Colleen Paige to recognize the many contributions dogs make to society and to celebrate them. Dogs play a key role in law enforcement, whether they are helping to locate bombs or drug dealers, or providing assistance for those who require it. Puppy can even detect cancer in patients nowadays.

Additionally, National Puppy Day has been encouraging dog ownership across all breeds, pure and mixed, while also promoting the freedom of all dogs from abuse.

In recent years, National Puppy Day has grown in popularity and is on an upward trajectory. Media coverage of it each year gives rescue homes the much-needed exposure they need to get their message out. Spend this holiday acknowledging how awesome dogs are, no matter how you decide to celebrate. Whether you decide to volunteer at a rescue home or make a donation to a shelter or give your furry friend a big hug, make sure you celebrate this holiday.

How to Celebrate National Dog Day, August 26th

People have been celebrating International Dog Day for many years. The day is celebrated on August 26th, and many people make a special meal for their dogs. This can be an important tradition for dog owners who may not have the opportunity to celebrate it with their pets in their own countries. Here we share some ways to celebrate national dog day.

1. Adopt a dog from your local shelter.

International Dog Day gives you the chance to find a dog in need and provide them with a safe, loving, forever home. That is by far the most important thing you can do in support of dogs. You will have a lifelong companion, and you will have contributed to relieving some of the suffering experienced by millions of dogs across the globe. Adopting a dog can be a big commitment, so be sure you’re ready for it. Before you adopt a dog, you should be aware of all the responsibilities, and factors to consider.

2. Get involved with your local shelter by volunteering.

In addition to adopting a dog, volunteering at a local shelter is an excellent way to support the dogs in your community. You will always find dogs in need, no matter where you are in the world. It is possible to support them by becoming a volunteer and visiting them frequently. Dog walkers and volunteers assist the shelter with all kinds of tasks, from cleaning cages to playing with dogs.

3. Donate to an animal welfare organization.

Not enough time to volunteer? We have alternative ways you can support dogs in need. Donate money to an animal welfare organization or rescue organization, for example. Dog food, blankets, and toys are often needed by shelters. It is often possible to drop off these items at the shelter at any time; you should call ahead to find out what they need.

4. Take your dog out.

Suppose you already have a dog. What is your dog’s favorite thing to do? Go to the dog park with friends? Swim in the lake? What about visiting a special cafe where dogs can also eat? On International Dog Day, indulge your dog in their favorite activity.

5. Track your dog’s location with a GPS device.

Your dog might get scared and run away during your day out, or worse, get lost, while you enjoy the day with your family. You’ll know where your dog is at all times with a GPS dog tracker, and make sure that they’re never in danger. GPS trackers are an affordable (and high-tech) way for you to add peace of mind to your dog’s collar.

6. Get active with your dog.

Participate in some fun, moderate physical activity with your dog to support its physical health and well-being. You can go for a walk, a run, a hike, play together, or swim with your dog. Monitor your dog’s fitness levels with a dog activity monitor to ensure that they get the right amount of physical activity.
