Why Pakistan celebrates Independence Day on August 14

Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh were once part of the Indian subcontinent, a vast landmass. However, on August 15, 1947, the Indian Independence Act established two nations, India and Pakistan. Pakistan, on the other hand, celebrates its Happy Independence Day on the 14th of August rather than the 15th.

“As of the fifteenth day of August, nineteen hundred and forty-seven, two independent Dominions shall be established in India, to be called respectively as India and Pakistan,” said the Act.

HISTORY OF PAKISTAN INDEPENDENCE DAY

Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh were once part of the Indian subcontinent, a vast landmass. Since the introduction and acceptance of Islam in the subcontinent, peace has been disrupted by fights and Hindu oppression of Muslims. After the War of Independence in 1857, intellectual thinking and ideologies were put into action to protect the Muslim minority.

The odds were stacked against the Muslim community, yet with courage and faith, the oppressed Muslims of the subcontinent were able to realize their dreams of liberation. The All-India Muslim League was created in 1906, and on October 1 of that year, the first delegation of 36 Muslim leaders made their demand for a separate state for Muslims to the Viceroy of India in Simla.

If it hadn’t been for one man’s superhuman efforts and fight to make the concept of Pakistan and Muslim emancipation a reality, it would have remained a pipe dream. Muhammad Ali Jinnah was a lawyer and politician who became known as the “Father of Pakistan.” From 1913 until Pakistan’s independence, Jinnah was the leader of the All-India Muslim League. 

Another visionary who pushed for the secession of Muslims from India was Allama Muhammad Iqbal. Iqbal suggested the notion in his presidential address on December 29, 1930, in Allahabad Pakistan’s history. The Allahabad Address is widely regarded as a watershed moment in history. In 1933, the word “Pakistan” first appeared in a pamphlet titled “Now or Never.”

How to Celebrate Independence Day of Pakistan

People celebrate their independence by throwing sweets and fruits over the rail rails. Pakistan’s Independence Day is a joyous occasion for all Pakistanis. It was the day they felt their independence and realized they had reached the summit of their ambitions. On this day, the entire Pakistani population is ecstatic. They are unconcerned about the country’s political condition and are entirely focused on celebrating this August day.

Pakistan is in the midst of its most glorious century, thus the August celebrations are particularly spectacular. Flower garlands and street gatherings adorn every town, city, hamlet, and so on. Pakistan, in fact, is not prepared to celebrate its independence without incident or festivity. They are more concerned with putting on a big show for the festival than with what is going on in the country.

The key characteristic of Pakistan Independence Day festivities is that the Pakistani government has announced that this is a day on which all Pakistanis are allowed to celebrate as they like. This is a true declaration of Pakistani independence. Almost every town and hamlet in Pakistan celebrates this event to the fullest extent possible. Flowers are placed along the highways, and banners of national and international organizations are hung.

Muhammad Ali Jinnah Led the Fight for Independence

Several significant leaders, including Muhammad Ali Jinnah, pushed for Pakistan’s independence. As a member of the Indian National Congress in the early twentieth century, Jinnah, a Karachi-born and London-trained barrister, became an organizational voice for Pakistan’s independence. Later, Jinnah assisted in the formation of coalitions pushing for Pakistan’s independence as a Muslim nation-state. Muhammad Ali Jinnah is remembered today as Pakistan’s first governor-general, who played a key role in determining the country’s policies and goals following independence.

Religious Freedom is Guaranteed Under the Constitution

Imagine not being able to practice your religion because it is against the law. Pakistan Independence Day is a day of thanksgiving for the country’s Muslims, whose right to freely practice Islam is protected by the country’s constitution. Today, however, various Muslim sects, as well as other religious minorities, are persecuted and face daily threats of murder or death in Pakistan.
