Korean New Year 2022 Date, Wishes, Quotes, Greetings

The Korean New Year, also identified as Seollal, is a festival and national holiday that occurs on the second fresh moon after the winter solstice, unless there occurs an intercalary 11th or 12th month in the lead-up to the New Year. It is the first day of the Korean calendar. It is one of the most important traditional Korean holidays.

Korean New Year has been celebrated for thousands of years. It is time to put an end to the winter season and start a new one. Everyone hopes that this year will be better than the last, that their wishes will come true, and that everything they need will be given to them in abundance.

So I’ve decided to ask all my friends, who live in Korea or around the world, for help writing their Korean New Year Wish in English.

What is Korean New Year?

Seollal is a cultural holiday that dates from the Korean lunar calendar and is based on traditional Chinese Confucianism. It usually ends three days: the day before the Korean New Year, the day of the New year, and the day after the Korean New New Year.

The main official histories of Silla, an old kingdom from 57 BC, are the Book of Sui and the Book Book of Tang. Seollal was observed from 935 A.D. to 935 C.D., that period. The Joseon dynasty, a well-known kingdom that ruled from 1392 to 1897, also leaves traces of government officials cooperating in the five grand palaces to celebrate the Korean New Year.

Seollal is a one-of-a-kind Korean tradition built on the lunar cycle that is inspired by China. The cycle is renewed every 12 years, each year being a distinct animal. Mice, dogs, ox, sheep, tigers, rabbits, monkeys, dragons, snakes, horses, roosters, and pigs are the 12 animals that break up this group. The animals’ order is supposed to have been depending on the sequence in which they were offered to visit Buddha.

In Korea, the animal that represents the year that a child was born is believed to have its own characteristics and traits. Even some parents plan their children’s birth year according to this belief.
