When is Ecuador Independence Day?
Every year on August 10, Ecuador celebrates its Independence Day as a national public holiday. It is known as the “Day of Quito’s First Cry of Independence” in Spanish, and as the “First Cry of Hispanic American Independence” in other Hispanic American nations, since Ecuador was the first to do so in Latin America and influenced others. The inhabitants of Quito, Ecuador’s current capital city, rose up and proclaimed their freedom from Spain on this day in 1809. Ecuador’s name comes from the Spanish term “equator,” which accurately describes its geographical position.
How to Celebrate Ecuador Independence Day
Several parades, cultural events, and concerts take place on this day throughout Ecuador. The Ecuadorian Parade and Ecuadorian Festival are held in New York City during the weeks leading up to and after Ecuadorian Independence Day if you’re an Ecuadorian living in the United States.
Ceviche, yucca bread, encebollado, patacones, and a goat dish known as Seco de Chivo are some of the typical dishes available at the cultural events we mentioned.
It is commonly accompanied by dancers wearing traditional and colorful loose shirts known as guayaberas, and it has become known as the “rhythm of Ecuador.” You may simply investigate YouTube videos to listen to the music and watch the dancing if you can’t attend these events.
Ecuadorian War of Independence
From 1820 to 1822, many South American forces battled Spain for control of the Royal Audience of Quito, a Spanish colonial administrative authority from which the modern Republic of Ecuador would eventually emerge.
Start date: November 7, 1820
End date: 1822
